Percussion instrument made from basketwork
The Meinl CAX2 is a caxixi of medium size that can be used alone or in combination with a berimbau, for example. The percussion instrument is played in West Africa and South America, but above all in Brazil. Here it is used extensively for making capoeira music. The CAX2 is made of braided rattan strands with a bottom of coconut. Rattan strands are a kind of long lianas that grow in the subtropics on the rattan palm. When you shake the caxixi, and with it the contents, you will hear a high rattling sound like with maracas. This makes it a good tool to keep up with.
